The Air Born Series (0.5-2) by Marc B. Degeorge
Requirements: ePUB Reader, 18.2MB | Retail
Overview: Marc B. DeGeorge has made every attempt in his adult life to maintain a balance between how much science and how much art he dabbles in. Sometimes, he’s even successful. When he was young, he wanted to be an astronaut, and then an aeronautical engineer—he even went to Space Camp! But then he learned how to play guitar and his space dreams took a back seat. He spent a decade playing professionally in bands and studying music in college (university only took five years). These days, things have come round full circle, and Marc envisions the future by writing books that imagine what challenges humanity may face, and what we might accomplish together.
Genre: Fiction > Sci-Fi/Fantasy

#0.5 - A Universe Upon Us
If she can't save her enemy, she'll lose her friend.

Ceri was no solider. Not until the adults of the custodial crew had forced her to kill. Now, seven years after tearing her twelve-year-old body from stasis, she had become one of the deadliest. It didn't matter that the other children she fought were just passengers like her. Everyone was just trying to survive.

The Stratford was a colony ship, halfway through its thousand year journey to a new planet. But something had happened. A fire destroyed the command level, and now the ship was out-of-control, lost in the depths of space.

Then, one day, Efa, Ceri's squad mate and best friend, commits a crime that can only be considered treason. Ceri is furious, but also confused. They cared for each other like sisters. Why would Efa do something like this?

The reason forces Ceri into an impossible choice. Should she follow Efa on her treasonous path, or risk losing the only person on the ship she could trust?

#1 - A Call to the Sky
In a world with no ground, only flight keeps you alive.

Toume d'Nezuhmy only wanted to be a pilot, just like his mother. As the son of a chieftain, his clan had trained him to fly well, then sent him to bury his head in books. He would have stayed in them, if not for the high priestess of the Drahken clan.

After making a stop on her Island to deliver parts, she offers him a curious mission. Take a mysterious package to the Manuke—the clan of scientists and engineers who will study it to find its secrets. There is no pay, but if he is successful, the high priestess will grant him her daughter's hand in marriage.

Ever since his mother went missing, Toume has struggled to gain his father's approval. Could this be the chance he needs to show his father he is ready to be away from his books?

This delivery is not as simple as it seems, however. Rival clans will kill him for the package, and even if he is successful, marriage is no guarantee of happiness.

A serious choice lies before Toume. Should he choose wrong, he could wind up dead, or worse—a failed union between him and the Drahken heir would destroy the only alliance that protects his clan from destruction.

#2 - A Challenge for the Sky
Could the sky be more dangerous than what is above it?

The responsibility of the Nezuhmy clan now belongs to Toume, but rather than focusing on his people, his eyes look to the stars. A project to launch a ship into space is nearing completion, and Toume wants nothing more than to be on it. Years ago, his mother was one of the first to leave the planet. She never returned, yet Toume believes she is still alive. If he can go, he might learn what happened to her.

Not everyone is so eager to see the launch succeed. Suspicion surrounds the project, and Preandra, chief of the technical Manuhke clan, is hesitant to move forward after a concerning discovery. Toume's advisors also threaten to keep him from leaving home. They claim they are worried about his mental health and his lack of attention on the clan. He must forget all else and do the job they elected him to do—be chief.

When a tragic event occurs, Preandra shuts the project down, threating violence if Toume persists in finding out what happened. What is the reason for the director's warning? Does Preandra know something he is unwilling to share? And can Toume investigate before his advisors ground him?

To save the future of the planet, and his people, Toume must choose between his desires and his true responsibilities.
